Kasimir & Grandma Tree

Something new is growing at Firlefanz Films.

We’re excited to give you a first look at Kasimir & Grandma Tree — a project very close to our hearts that we’re currently developing as an animated TV series. It’s still in its early stages, but it’s already one of the most personal projects.

The Story

Kasimir is four years old, determined, and absolutely convinced he can fix anything. His grandmother is a tree — ancient, warm, and increasingly forgetful. Together, the two of them set off in search of a remedy for Grandma Tree’s memory loss. What they find instead is something much more valuable: that age difference means very little when it comes to needing each other.

Kasimir & Grandma Tree is an adventure comedy for upper preschool and bridge audiences (ages 5–7), combining stop-motion and 2D animation across 26 episodes of 7 minutes each. It’s the kind of show that makes kids laugh and quietly gives parents a lump in their throat. Which is exactly what we were going for.

Where It Comes From

The project grew out of something very personal for Arne. As he puts it himself:

“The project was inspired by my own experiences with my grandfather at a time when his physical health was deteriorating — a sharp contrast to me being a young person with my whole life ahead of me. Many children are confronted very early with the issues of old age and illness in their family environment. Finding the right way to deal with this is particularly difficult for them, especially when the adults are also overwhelmed by the situation.”

What makes the Kasimir and Grandma Tree dynamic so special is that both characters approach the world with a kind of blissful honesty — one through youthful naivety, the other through ageing forgetfulness. They meet each other on equal terms, and that opens up a wonderful space to explore big topics from two very different perspectives without ever feeling heavy-handed.

Where We Are

Arne pitched Kasimir & Grandma Tree at Cartoon Springboard 2025, and the project is next heading to Animation Production Days (APD) 2026, where we’ll be looking for international co-production partners, distributors, broadcasters and streaming services.

It’s early days — but the seed is planted, and it’s already looking like something we’re very proud of. Watch this space.
