Filmfest Hamburg Trailer
Trailer time!
The Filmfest Hamburg 2023 trailer was one of those projects that lands in your lap through the best possible channel: a friend. Our long-time collaborator and cinematographer Sebastian Ganschow brought us into the production, and we got to contribute the stop-motion animation sequence for what turned out to be a really fun, quirky ride of a trailer.
The Directors
The trailer was directed by Anna-Lena Schwing and Maximilian Mundt — both well-known faces in German film and TV. You might know Maximilian best as the teenage drug dealer from the hugely popular Netflix series How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast). Good to know he’s found some legitimate work since then.
Our Part in It
Arne was brought on to animate a stop-motion sequence within the trailer — and not just any sequence. We got to turn beloved German actor Bjarne Mädel into a hand-crafted puppet. Yes, we shrank him down, built him in clay and fabric, and animated him frame by frame. We like to think he should be flattered. A great team came together to make it happen:
- Camera, Light & Compositing: Sebastian Ganschow
- Character Design: Oscar Jacobson
- Puppet Building: Luise Wolff & Arne Hain
- Costume: Svenja Kosmalski
- Set Design & Building: Maximilian Mundt
- Animation: Arne Hain
Yes — Maximilian Mundt also built the set for the animation sequence. Turns out he’s handy with more than just a script.
Why We Love This One
Projects like the Filmfest Hamburg trailer are a reminder of why connections matter. Sebastian brought us in, the directors gave us the creative space to do what we do, and the result is a piece of work that feels genuinely alive. A film festival trailer should make you want to go to the cinema — and this one absolutely does.
Big thanks to Sebastian for the intro, and to Anna-Lena and Maximilian for making it such a great collaboration.
